Saint Marcellian

Profile

Marcellian was the son of Saint Tranquillinus of Rome who raised him a pagan before his own conversion. He was the twin brother of Saint Mark. He converted to Christianity. He may have been a deacon. He was imprisoned for his faith during the persecutions of Maximian Herculeus. He was visited in prison by Saint Sebastian who encouraged him not to give in. He was a martyr.

  • buried near the Catacomb of Saint Domitilla
  • grave re-discovered in 1902
