Profile
Paul was born to a Christian family in the apostolic vicariate of West Cochinchina (in modern Vietnam). Paul and two of his brothers joined a band of highwaymen and burglars, with Paul as their leader. When Paul insisted that the thieves return some of their loot to the poor, they betrayed him to the authorities, accusing him of treason by collaborating with the French. Arrested, Paul denied the treason but proclaimed himself a sinful Christian and refused to renounce his faith. He was tortured and martyred in the persecutions of emperor Tu-Duc.
