Saint Teresa of the Andes

Profile

Teresa was born to an upper class family. From her adolescence, Teresa was devoted to Christ. She was greatly influenced by the autobiography of Saint Thérèse de Lisieux. She entered the monastery of the Discalced Carmelite nuns at Los Andes on 7 May 1919, and was given the name Teresa of Jesus. She was a model for young people. She is the first Chilean and the first member of the Teresian Carmel in Latin America to be beatified.
