1 John 4:16-17

Verse:

“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus“ - 1 John 4:16-17

1 John 4:16-17 reminds us that our belief in and love for God must also translate in the way we live. We must remember to live each day with God in our hearts and minds. To continue living with love in our hearts because anyone who believes and acts on love has God with them.

Morning Prayer

Almighty God, you fill all things with your presence. In your great love, keep us near you this day. Grant that in all our ways and doings we may remember that you see us, and may always have the grace to know and perceive what things you would have us do, and give us strength to do the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Saint Cajetan

Today’s saint was seemed headed for an ordinary life – he was a lawyer, then became a priest who is engaged in the work of the Roman Curia. Shortly after his ordination, his life took a characteristic turn when he joined the Oratory of Divine Love in Rome – i.e., a group devoted to piety and charity. Later on, he founded a hospital for the incurables at Venice. When he was at Vicenza, he joined a “disreputable” religious community which is consisted only of men of the lowest stations of life – there he sought out the sick and poor of the town and served them. Worn out by the troubles he saw in his Church and his home, Cajetan fell ill. When doctors tried to get him to rest on a softer bed then the boards he slept on, Cajetan answered, “My savior died on a cross. Let me died on wood at least.” He died on August 7, 1547.

Transfiguration of the Lord

The three Synoptic Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, tells us the story of the Transfiguration of the Lord. With remarkable agreement, all three put the event shortly after Peter’s confession of faith the Jesus is the Messiah. It was also the time when Jesus gave the first prediction of his passion and death.

The Transfiguration of the Lord can sound embarrassingly magical. Jesus goes up onto a mountain and his clothes become dazzlingly white. Prophets appear and talk to him. And then it is all over and Jesus tells his disciples to say nothing. Tradition names Mount Tabor as the site of the Transfiguration of the Lord. A church was raised at the site during the fourth century.

Jeremiah 33:2-3

When we find ourselves lost and confused, we must call out to God for He is an all-knowing God. We must turn to God and seek not a certain answer that we want but the one that He has in store for us. We must learn to listen and conform to Him.

Prayer To Seek Answers

“Faithful Lord, You promised that You are with me and will answer me when I call out to You. Gracious Lord, I ask that You to open my mind and ears to Your whispers, so that I may hear the answers that only You can provide. I am reaching out to You in faith, trusting You hear my prayers and will answer me. I know that by means of my prayer, I will receive all good things. Amen.”

Dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major

The Council of Ephesus in 431 formally proclaimed the mother of Jesus as the Mother of God, and the church (basilica) of St Mary Major on the Esquiline Hill in Rome was built shortly afterwards to celebrate her motherhood. This is the oldest church in the West that is dedicated to Our Lady.

The title “Mother of God” may seem technical or even excessive; but it emphasizes the central truth of the Incarnation, that Jesus Christ was not only a true man, but God also; and not only God, but man born of a woman.

Genesis 4:7

“O heavenly Lord,
I feel like I’m being torn apart. I know what’s right, but it won’t be easy. Not at all. I admit it. I’m afraid. Won’t you help me?

Reveal to me, O Lord, your way. Show me the firm, solid path. It may not be easy, but it’s where Jesus walks. He’s right there next to me. And when the climb gets steep my Lord will lift me. Carry me. For this weak and fragile soul can’t do it alone.

I trust and lean on you. Build my courage to face the day. Let it not fill me with pride, instead may I be humbled knowing that in some small way I imitate Christ.

My Lord Jesus held nothing back as it was all for love. May I too go to the cross, be driven by love, and give glory to God.
In Jesus name I pray,

Amen.”

Saint John Vianney

“A man with vision will overcome every obstacles and shall perform deeds that seem to be impossible.” John Marie Vianney was a man of vision. He wanted to become a priest but he has to overcome his meager from schooling, which inadequately prepared him for seminary studies.

His dedication as a confessor was his most remarkable accomplishment, that even during winter months, he would spend 11 to 12 hours of celebrating the sacrament of reconciliation. During summer months, he would increase his hearing of confession up to 16 hours. In 1929, Pope Pius XI named him as the patron saint of all Priests in the world.

Saint Peter Julian Eymard

Born in La Mure d’Isère, Southeastern France, Peter Julian Eymard’s faith journey drew him from being a diocesan priest of Grenoble in 1834, to joining the Marists in 1839, to founding the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in 1856.

In addition, Eymard coped with poverty, his father’s initial opposition to his vocation, from serious illness, a Jansenistic overemphasis on sin, and the difficulties of getting diocesan and papal approval for his own established religious community. Beyond all of this he remained a faithful servant of God.

Peter Julian Eymard was beatified in 1925 and was canonized in 1962, the day after the end of Second Vatican Council’s first session.

Devotion: Immaculate Heart of Mary

Dating back to the 16th century, special devotions have been assigned for each month by the Catholic piety. For the month of August, we dedicate it to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Looking at history, we can see this devotion to the Immaculate Heart emphasized in the visions given to the oldest visionaries of Fatima, Lucy Dos Santos. In her visions (1925 and 1926), Our Lady asked for the practice of the Five First Saturdays to help make amends for the offenses committed against her heart through the blasphemies and ingratitude of men. This practice parallels the devotion of the Nine First Fridays in honor of the Sacred Heart.

World War II brought turmoil to the world in the 1940s. As response to the requests of Our Lady of Fatima, Pope Pius XII performed a solemn Act of Consecration of the Church and of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on October 31, 1942.

There is no better example of the Christian life than what Mary has offered. Her Immaculate Heart is a representation of the desire of the Mother of God to bring the people to her Son. It is venerated, often together with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, because it is united in her person and is the seat of her love, virtue, and inner life.

This devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is emphasized during August but it is something that we must remember all-year round. May we deepen our devotion to her Immaculate Heart through praying, so we may be drawn closer to Christ through Mary.
